Try It

Multiple pitches are great. But not when you’re saying the same thing.

Pulling together a mammoth Christmas gift guide for one of the newspaper supplements this year has been fun – even though that now that I know exactly what’s out there, my family has expectations for 2018’s crème de la crème of presents.

I really couldn’t have done it without the teams of in-house and agency PRs who answered my ‘urgent’ requests speedily and then patiently sent me hi-res images and wetransfers and multiple credit details as my 10pm emails got more hysterical. Big thanks to all those Christmas angels for helping me out on that score.

What did become slightly exasperating was when multiple agency team members started sending me emails about the same products from the same clients. Guys, I love the enthusiasm, but there’s only so many times that I want to see those neon, wireless state-of-the-art headphones and that time is once, no matter how cool they are.

It’s nit-picking because so much I received proved useful, but it with a little more communication about which press you’re reaching out to, agencies could save time and energy and avoid overlap. Maybe that’s a resolution for 2019.
