Home PR Insights Life in Lockdown – Lucy Halfhead, Group Luxury Travel Director of Hearst UK

Each day we speak to a journalist about their new normal, today we hear from Lucy Halfhead.

Lucy Halfhead is Group Luxury Travel Director at Hearst UK.

Where are you working from right now?
I’m working from home – a loft apartment in Shoreditch that I share with two housemates.

What’s your new morning routine?
I’ve always woken up to Radio 1’s breakfast show, but it’s starting at 7am for the time being so I get an extra half hour in bed I try to make the most of the time that I save not travelling to work with a live yoga class – I alternate between Lululemon, Peloton and FLY LDN.

Have you got dressed today?
Yes, I always get dressed, although I seem to be rotating between the same three outfits at the moment, and sometimes find I’m still in activewear at lunchtime! But I don’t bother with makeup unless I have a Zoom meeting to attend.

How has your working week changed since Covid-19 hit?
As an editor and writer, working from home thankfully hasn’t been too much of an adjustment, but I now join a number of team group calls and video meetings with my colleagues so that we can stay in contact with each other and keep the magazine production on schedule.

What are the current plans for filling your pages?
At Hearst, we’re committed to running travel editorial in the pages of our luxury magazines – we know our readers love to dream and to plan their holidays in advance so we will continue to provide inspiration for when the travel restrictions are lifted.

What does a work lunch look like these days?
I usually go out for my daily walk around lunchtime and come back to a bowl of warming soup while taking a Slack call!

What’s the biggest challenge for your desk/publication right now?
The entire travel industry is on pause at the moment, so the biggest challenge is finding ways to support hotels, airlines, and everyone in the hospitality business as much as possible.

Has anything positive come out of this?
I think the situation has reminded people not to take anything for granted, from being able to go to the pub to getting on a plane to explore a new destination.

What’s your top tip for PRs right now?
Look to the future and keep sending ideas for inspirational online and print features to fuel our readers’ wanderlust!

What’s your comeback plan?
The travel industry has faced many challenges before and I know that they will bounce back from this, and that people will be even more excited to explore the world once we are out the other side…
