Our own Saffron Hepworth lists five easy ways to capitalise on your time and ticket cost at a Roxhill event.
You’ve secured your ticket to one of Roxhill’s headline events; you’ve pushed back that client call for the morning; and your manager is expecting you to come back with notes, insight and maybe some warm coverage leads.
But how can you make sure you use your time to the maximum potential?
1. Come prepared
Whether you’re hitting the bar at Pub Club or gearing up for the adrenaline-rush of Speed Pitching Live, it’s vital that you’re prepped on the journalist you’ll be seeing.
Make sure you know their name, title and what they look like – at a minimum. Even better if you can reference some of their recent articles and know what kinds of stories they love to cover.
Luckily, their profile pages on the Roxhill database provide info on their recent headlines, their main categories of coverage, plus their social feeds, so you can research and prep ahead of time.
If you’re coming to a Q&A session, we’d love to hear your questions. You can either submit one when you buy your ticket or ask one at the end of the talk.
2. Don't be shy
3. Keep the conversation going
You’ve made a brilliant first impression, you’re confident your client has a front-page worthy story, so what’s next? Even if you only grabbed two minutes of their time, it pays to follow up and cement yourself (and your pitch) in the journalist’s memory.
A quick ‘great to meet you this morning, here’s some more info’ is all you need to keep the conversation going and spark a lasting professional relationship.
4. Lean into your learning style
We all absorb information in different ways – some of us like to just listen, some are diligent notetakers. Whichever you are, lean into this when you come along to a Q&A session – as long as you’re engaged (and hopefully sitting in the front row), we don’t mind!
Don’t forget that event notes are written up and added to the Interview tab on the relevant journalist’s profile in the weeks after the event.
We also often create special pitching guides which contain a wealth of information pulled from our sessions. You can find these under the Resources tab on our website.
5. Get social
We read every post story you tag us in on Instagram and LinkedIn, so do keep them coming.
Make sure you tag us and the journalists in your posts to share what you have taken away from the session.
Spreading the good word about Roxhill events helps us to draw in those top journalists and keep providing our clients with brilliant insight into how the media world works.
