Breaking our beauty detox

This week my puppy went for a groom. I did an insta picture of both of us captioned ‘one of these bitches just got a wash and blow dry and it wasn’t me.’

It got a lot of likes.

A press release from 42 Bruton recruits plastic surgeon Dr Oliver Amar to discuss the negative impact our lack of grooming/tweakments can have on mental health, saying it can make us feel ‘anxious and stressed.’

There’s no doubt a mani/pedi, blow dry, hair colouring appointment (please God…) can make us feel a million dollars.

A recent Mintel study states a quarter of UK consumers are most looking forward to visiting the hairdressers once the current situation eases. (The same research shows lockdown has made wellness and self care are an increasing priority for all Europeans).

Smart PR’s and salons are capitalising on this desire and making big news of waiting lists and a fanfare about the joy of getting back in the chair.

The Cut has an interview with plastic surgeon Dr Steven Levine who says he’s busier than ever doing virtual consults all day. Seems wealthy clients have had some downtime to consider what face/body work they want.

Now there’s a change in the air, and we dare to dream of post lockdown freedom, I have started talking to my editors accordingly. Ideas about UK spas, ideas that capture the excitement of returning to the new normal. That celebrate the feel good fix we get from massages, a blow dry and our greys touched out.

My first appointment?

Lash lift and tint with Suman at Hersheshons.

I’m first in that virtual queue.
