Earlier this week I was putting together a page that required quite a lot of pictures sourced from different brands, all in a short time frame. This meant a quick search in my inbox for each relevant contact, many of whom had sent press releases about these new launches over the past few weeks. 

It made me realise there is a real mixed bag when it comes to brand imagery, and I thought it might be useful to note down. 

The most helpful emails, upon searching my inbox for the relevant press releases, had links to a Dropbox or a ‘mini-site’. These weren’t just packshots at different image file sizes, but also lifestyle images. For instance, Sisley had an excellent mini site that had pictures of the brand’s new serum, but also some pictures of droplets of the serum, a model applying said serum and different versions of the bottle (lid open, lid closed, etc). 

All the images were provided at high resolution and I was able to immediately download the picture I needed, without having to bother the PR to request an image (the PR had helpfully linked to the mini site in every press release or email about the product).

Of course not every product requires a mini site or big production! There were other instances where a picture was already attached to the email, which is great – and in this case, I would always highlight in an email if you have access to other lifestyle images that can be provided at request.

Finally, if a picture isn’t linked or provided in the initial email, I would say to keep other team members in copy. I think particularly when images are needed at short notice, it’s always helpful to know if there are other team members who can help quickly if needed.
