Let’s Be Proud

Home Roxstars Let’s Be Proud

My mother’s friend once referred to me as ‘a journalist (non serious).’

And I’m sure you’ve all heard the ‘it’s PR not ER’ line.’

Hell, in the beauty industry, we all know we are not saving lives. But we do know we add joy to them.

My friend and make-up artist Caroline Barnes has a popular You Tube channel called Speed Beauty. She recently got a message from a nurse saying she would love a one to one tutorial with her. She said it would give her a real boost. Caroline is now recruiting her industry friends to spend thirty minutes of their time on a video tutorial with an NHS worker as a way of showing thanks.

Another friend, John Frieda hairdresser Joel Goncalves, posted a Vidal Sassoon quote that said of his work ‘the object is to make them (the client) look at themselves with a twinkle in their eye.’ And isn’t that what a visit to the salon always does?

I also interviewed make up artist Ruby Hammer MBE last week for my Life’s Rosie website and she said wanted to use this time to to make a meaningful difference. She graciously shared her break up story with me (two decades hence) and we talked about the importance of self care on self esteem.

So whilst we might think that lipsticks, face creams and hair dyes are not important, they offer a shot of happiness in a stormy world.

So let’s be proud of what we contribute.
