Maybe 2022 is going to be a year of doing things differently
The Duchess of Cambridge turned 40 last weekend, and I was happy to be commissioned to write about her style evolution for YOU Magazine. It was interesting and informative to take a trip down memory lane and reacquaint myself with her most noteworthy outfits in the 20 years since she was thrust into the public eye. On Sunday – the day of her birthday – new portraits were released to mark the occasion. Shot by Paolo Roversi, they were a departure from the norm that showed Kate’s more informal side. The most striking image showed her in a dramatic one-shouldered gown by Alexander McQueen, one hand thrust nonchalantly into a pocket.
By Monday evening, I was fully expecting to have drowned under a digital avalanche of emails from fashion PRs urging me to “get the look”. Reader, there were none. Okay: there were some – but only a fraction of the number I was anticipating.
I couldn’t help but wonder: has the “get the look” PR hook finally had its day? I hope so. I’ve written before about how I believe the pitch is often ineffectual. Maybe 2022 is going to be a year of doing things di
