Reader events… I’ve spent 20 years in magazines and never attended one.

More fool me.

At The Langham on Friday I met the people who loyally buy the magazine I write for and it was an enlightening experience.

They came for a long boozy lunch, a heaving goodie bag and a catch up with likeminded women. Oh and the chance to hear Good Morning Britain’s TV presenter Richard Arnold spill the beans on celebrity gossip.

I took some brave pills and asked them what they liked (honest reviews, budget buys, models that are age relevant) and what they didn’t (ridiculously expensive creams, hotel spas that allow children and lots of adverts).

Sometimes you forget as a journalist that your reader is your customer. It’s easy to exist in media bubble where we all scratch each others backs, think London is the centre of the universe and forget people have to hand over hard earned cash for things we get for free.
