I recently received a box of beauty products to try.
Obviously it’s crucial to be able to test products before you know if you want to write about them, but on this occasion I was distracted by the amount, which was slightly overwhelming for one person, and also all the packaging that came along with it.
My packaging panic is definitely getting worse and this didn’t help. I think I’m going to have to put a note at the end of my emails saying: no plastic please.
Some of the products were in brightly coloured, plastic gift bags and I have no idea what to do with them now. I don’t think they’re recyclable so I am going to have to send them back to the brand. But what will they do with them?
Brands need to start thinking about closing the loop. If they are going to make this stuff then they need to know how it is to be responsibly disposed of or remade. I am very into the brand Haeckels right now.
Their beauty and body products are handmade in Margate and they’ve just introduced bio-contributing packaging made from mycelium found in the root system of mushrooms. Other beauty brands, take note.
