How to Access the Journalist Assistant

1. Navigate to the Media Database homepage.
2. Click on any journalist’s profile.
3. Select “View Full Profile.”
4. On this page, you’ll find the Journalist Assistant ready to use.

The Journalist Assistant analyses a journalist’s recent work, tone, and themes to give you actionable insights. It can help you:

  • Understand what topics and angles they currently cover.
  • Prepare spokespeople for media interviews.
  • Learn how to best frame your pitch for maximum relevance.

Getting Started

To get a quick overview of what a journalist writes about, check the suggested prompts. These offer ready-made questions such as:

  • “What does this journalist typically cover?”
  • “Create a briefing doc to help my CEO prepare for an interview”

You can also ask your own questions, the assistant is fully conversational.

Personalising Your Insights

For the most accurate and personalised tips, provide context about your story or press release. For example:

  • “I’m pitching a sustainability story about ethical fashion brands, how should I angle it for this journalist?”

The Journalist Assistant will tailor its advice based on both your input and the journalist’s profile, helping you refine your outreach for better results.

The Journalist Assistant is a new feature that helps you understand what a journalist writes about, how they approach stories, and how to make your pitch more relevant. It analyses their Roxhill profile to give you relevant answers.

You can access the Journalist Assistant by:

  1. Going to the Media Database homepage.
  2. Clicking on a  journalist’s profile.
  3. Selecting Full Profile.
    You’ll see the Journalist Assistant panel on the right-hand side of the page

You can ask almost anything that helps you prepare for outreach, such as:

  • “What topics does this journalist write about?”
  • “How should I frame a sustainability story for them?”
  • “How does this journalist prefer to be pitched?”

You can also use the suggested prompts as a starting point.

Yes, if you give the journalist assistant additional context to your work it can tailor the answers for you.

The Journalist Assistant references the data included on the journalist’s profile which is all researched and verified by Roxhill and we’ve rigorously tested the journalist assistant for accuracy. It first looks at the Roxhill profile, but it can also refer to other sources.  

However, we recommend you sense check answers with your own experience.

The Journalist Assistant won’t share any of your questions or story ideas with anyone else.

The Journalist Assistant will appear on most journalist profiles in the Roxhill database where we have picked up recent content from them. The more data, the more useful the responses from the journalist assistant will be.

In some cases, such as for journalists like managing editors that don’t write articles, we won’t have enough data on someone to make the assistant useful, so it won’t be available on those profiles.

We are working on enriching data these profiles where possible and as we bring in more data, the Journalist Assistant will become available on those profiles over time.
