Introduction Of The Edit Button

As I write this, I’m on the briefest of mini breaks, in Marseille. Thanks to the pandemic, I’d forgotten how brilliant it can be to visit a new city but luckily I’d remembered to use one of my most trusted preparation tools before I got on the plane: asking Twitter for recommendations.

Despite its reputation for being a pit of savage abuse and outrageous opinions, I’ve always found the social media platform a great source of breaking news, links to interesting articles and a way to find and communicate with like-minded people. (That’s not to say I haven’t had my share of nastiness over the 12 years I’ve been tweeting…)

Thanks to Twitter I got some brilliant restaurant tips for my trip, from people I know and a smattering from PRs and suppliers too, proving that it’s still a useful tool for both the media and ancillary industries. For PRs, it’s always worth keeping an eye on what editors and key writers are talking about.

But what will the story of the day, Tesla tycoon Elon Musk’s purchase of the platform, mean for Twitter users? His idiosyncratic approach to business, and communications, is a little worrying but I hope it might mean nothing more radical than introducing an ‘edit’ button – and that we can carry on finding gems as we scroll.
