How to pitch CNBC Broadcast

Home PR Insights How to pitch CNBC Broadcast

Pitching to broadcast comes with its own set of hours, schedules and guidelines.

CNBC’s service is split across two outlets – the television channel and the website CNBC.com

CNBC’s television channel launched in 1989, originally as the Consumer News and Business Channel. It provides rolling business news on a 24-hour basis throughout the week via various formats, including talk shows, investigative reports, documentaries, infomercials and reality shows.

The guests

To get your client on camera, they must meet CNBC Europe’s strict criteria:

  • They must be one of the UK’s biggest companies, listed on the FTSE 100, FTSE 250, the CAC 40 and the AIM market.
  • Other big companies such as Lloyds of London which have global interests are also of interest.

Companies that don’t fall into these two categories are unlikely to make the cut.

Who to pitch to

The production team for both Squawk Box Europe and Street Signs Europe is led by News Editor for Strategic Relationships Tessa McCann. It is split into two:

  • The output team write the scripts and produces content including graphics and edited video.
  • The input team books guests, handles PRs and attends events.

You should always pitch to the input team with a concise email focused on the key news lines. The team will request additional information if they are interested and Tessa is happy to take a call to discuss a story

When to pitch

  • Both Squawk Box Europe and Street Signs Europe are planned a day ahead. On the day the output team will only respond to overnight breaking news.
  • The key daily editorial meeting is held from 10am-11am and PRs with pitches for the next day should submit them by 9am.
  • The team likes to book guests two to three days in advance, but will book them up to two months ahead.
  • The output team start at 4am in time to go live with Squawk Box Europe at 6am and can be contacted regarding breaking stories
