All hail the post-press trip info-pack

A fortnight ago, I lauded what was possibly the most helpful press trip invite ever. Now it’s time to cover the most helpful post-press trip info-pack ever.

Post-press trip info-packs aren’t really the norm, as far as I am aware; indeed, I’ve just dreamed up that clunky phrase. I’ve rarely come across anything resembling one before. But they clearly are a thing for Xhibition, a New York / Tel Aviv / London agency with whom I have recently travelled to Crete on an international group press trip.

Soon after our return, Jordan, who had led the trip, sent me, unexpectedly, a ‘Post-Press Trip Package’ (which I have since rebranded; ever the editor…). Six pages long (without a single image), this contained summaries of the places we visited with historical notes. More usefully, it had prices or menus from every wine tasting or restaurant we heroically sampled purely for the benefit of our lucky readers. It even listed each specific dish we’d tried. It had contact details for the media-facing folk at those same places. It had links to image galleries for not just the hotel client, but the wider destination. And it had social media links, website addresses, etc. So, in summary, pretty much everything I need administratively for my article.

Some of this stuff I already had written down or could easily google. But much of it— so I’ve learned over the years — would likely prove surprisingly ungooglable; that’s frequently true of menus with prices (which are often required) or local contact details. I consequently tend to make an extra effort to collate such information all while in situ — but even my Cretan notes were no match for Jordan’s pack.

When I asked permission to write about this topic, Jordan told me that she felt that every PR firm should automatically produce something akin to this after a group press trip; she seemed slightly surprised at how unique her offering was. But unique it nearly is — the few I have previously received have been absolutely no match for this — plus terrifically helpful. So: massive kudos to Xhibition, and food for thought for everyone else.

A nice, breezy release from Lucy at TUI, including good photos and the vital sample package — with one mark deducted for the use of a probably-expired-already WeTransfer link
