Glastonbury Glam

It’s not often that festival beauty looks make ‘serious’ headlines. So when BBC News alerted me to Lana del Rey’s hairdo drama at Glastonbury – which cut her set short – I was a little disappointed, given how it would (quite fairly) be met with eye rolls by many reading it.

Still, some PRs had positive reactions to it (for a witty one, see my press release of the week below, titled ‘The hair tool Lana del Rey should have used this weekend…’). And there were plenty more beauty looks to coo over – not least Lizzo donning a full face of vibrant Lottie London make-up.

In terms of A-list attendees, though – who often set the trends which filter down to us all – the make-up vibe appeared minimal this year. Led by festival fashion luminary Sienna Miller, the trends centred on double-denim, dark sunnies, cowboy boots, Barbour jackets and loose, undone hair. Like Miller, Poppy Delevingne, Gemma Chan, Lily James and Billy Piper all wore their locks down, with centre partings and the whisper of a wave. Sure, this hairstyle won’t make headlines – even the non-serious ones – but it will certainly make its way onto many mood boards. And it’s worth keeping that in mind when considering any trend-led press releases this season.

I’d love to know what looks you picked up on, too. With Glasto being watched the world over, and the fashion and beauty styles it breeds feeling largely sponsor-free, it’s one of the biggest catwalks for showcasing authentic street style trends. This influence shouldn’t be underestimated. Who knows, we might even see Lana leave her hair undone for her next big gig. Though let’s not get carried away.

What Bridget thinks…

“They had me at “Lana, babes, we’ve all been there.” But the rest of this email makes me want to know more about the hair tool at the heart of it, thanks to the talk of innovation.”
