It was a pleasure this week to take part in the panel discussion at Roxhill’s lifestyle launch event at the always glamorous venue, The Ned.
Somehow, when the doors to that hotel open you feel like you’ve gone straight back to the Roaring Twenties!
It was a great success and if you didn’t get to attend this time, there will be more events coming later this year.
After our discussion it was great to meet both familiar faces and lots of new ones. It reminded me that there’s no better way to start and continue a relationship than with actual face time.
That’s not always easy to do in time-pressed days when even a coffee takes an hour out of the working day, not including travel time.
My advice to junior PRs who want to start relationships is to attend as many events as you can where the right journalists are present and while you’re there… be brave! Yes, maybe your line manager or founder has an existing relationship with that travel editor at your company press day, but that doesn’t mean you can’t say hello too.
Don’t be a wallflower. Put the face to your name and your emails. There’s nothing else like it.
