Pre-Met Gala musings

What’s more exciting than the first spring/summer bank holiday of the year? It being Met Gala Monday, of course. I can’t wait to see the extravagant attention to detail expressing this year’s theme: ‘The Garden of Time’.

Based on the haunting 1962 short story by J.G. Ballard, interpretations will no doubt explore nature (“florals… for spring?” you got it), as well as decay – at the other end of the spectrum. Of course, it’s impossible to predict how myriad A-list guests will translate the wide-ranging topic, but there’s clearly plenty of scope for beauty details, both light and dark.

While I’m sure you’ve already had your thinking caps on as to how it may align with your clients at large (if at all), I thought it was worth sharing what we beauty writers are looking for, generally speaking, when it comes to Met-related outreach.

Most useful are true ‘get the look’ releases relaying the exact products – or brands – used on a star. If you have this information, don’t delay in sharing it as we tend to compile our coverage early on Tuesday morning following the event.

An exclusive is even better. Some behind-the-scenes perspective via imagery/video clips and quotes – from either talent themselves or the glam squads executing their looks – can be invaluable.

If such access isn’t possible, it’s still useful to have a heads-up from PRs about who a brand is collaborating with, as well as the offer of some kind of insider info relating to the activity. So far, I’ve only had two emails along these lines. But I’m holding out for more.

What Bridget thinks…

“Speaking of the bank holiday, I enjoyed this supplements-based press releases hooked on supporting your health over the long weekend. The tips speak to nutrition specifics, which really interested me.”
