what i'm working on

This marks my ninety-ninth RoxStars newsletter. Yep – ninety-ninth! Time is a thief.

Looking back, I’ve shared my thoughts on navigating the metaverse, dissecting dupe culture, the rise of ‘wedding sprawl’, toxic beauty ideals and why TV shows are the new fashion shows. But today I thought I’d finally tackle what you all really want from me: the answer to a PR’s eternal journo-posed question. “What are you working on?”

Okay, it’s meme worthy in how cliché the request feels. Understandably – though perhaps unfairly – it can irk some journalists who find the approach to bagging coverage a lazy one. But I get why it’s valuable for you to know what we’re currently writing about, and I always appreciate the intention. Plus, as we approach the famously snoozy ‘silly season’, I figure it’s a good time to crowdsource some features input.

So: for August, on Harper’s Bazaar’s beauty channel we’re planning to cover tretinoin (retinol’s stronger sister), lactic acid (in skincare, not one’s muscles), neck creams, ‘wellness fragrances’, oud fragrances, infrared saunas, laser facials, neck creams, shampoos for dry hair, styling products for curly hair, luxury bath products, designer make-up bags and make-up storage ideas.

That said, there will also be all kinds of stories that I can’t tell you about; my guess is as good as yours when it comes to the themes of reactive content. Will Princess Kate cut her hair? Will mocha make-up be the new latte make-up taking over TikTok? – I know we’re all waiting with bated breath. But I hope the above is helpful, nonetheless.

As for my one hundredth newsletter, it won’t be next week. I’m finally taking a holiday. So please save your pitches for next month when I’m back – if you’re about, yourself…

What Bridget thinks…

“Instead of asking if your client can be added to an article, it’s a good idea to offer something that might work as an offshoot to it. That’s what Dr. Vegan’s PR did here, responding to my story on the ‘Barbie’ actresses’ gut health diet for their skin, with news of some excellent sounding supplements…”
