‘The only thing that is certain is change’ said the Greek philosopher Heraclitus. What he didn’t say was ‘change is also a bit scary.’
I was thinking about this when I did a shoot for The Mail last week.
My friend Lee Pycroft, was doing my make up. She’s very well respected in the industry and has worked with Elle Macpherson and Anne Hathaway, plus has Vogue and Elle covers under her belt
But she’s diversifying into wellbeing. She’s trained as a Human Givens psychotherapist and is giving counseling sessions.
Matt Lever, the photographer, another old friend, has also seen his world change. When I worked at Elle in the nineties and noughties, we would cover backstage at the fashion shows together. He would take incredible pictures (Gisele! Kate! Amber!) and I would interview the hair and make-up artists.
Now the world of backstage has changed – magazine budgets have shrunk. But on the flip side the brands want more content, so he now shoots for them (check out his beautiful pictures of Dolce couture at mattlever.com).
Anyway when were together, the three of us, we had lots of ideas for new projects. Lee and I talked about doing self-esteem boosting workshops - tips and tricks to make people feel beautiful inside and out. Matt, Lee and I also thought about creating a service where we took flattering feel good pics for people who needed profile shots. (His lighting is SO good and Lee’s make up is so transformative and I like to think my creative direction is on point).
The message? Let’s make 2020 the year we embrace change and make it work for us.
